Election Night Results
Rapid City City/School Election
held on June 2, 2009

The Pennington County Auditor’s Office discovered late on election night after manual 
auditing that the Grand Totals Summary produced from the election scanning equipment 
was miscalculated.  All pronounced winners remained the same; however, there will not 
be a run-off in Ward 4, as Ron Kroeger received the percentage needed to capture that 
race.  

Julie Pearson, Pennington County Auditor, said election data was found to be 
accumulating in multiples on the Grand Totals Summary produced and released to the 
public before 10:00 p.m.  The Precinct-by-Precinct election data produced on election 
night is correct as balanced to the precinct reports, counted and released to the public.  

“It is an integral part of processing election results data to compare results from the 
scanning equipment to the number of ballots voted results returned by the individual 
polls.  This audit is done to capture any calculation errors, human or electronic.”   

Overall, Election Day progressed as expected.  5613 voters turned out to vote which was 
a 13.2% turnout.  Total voter registration in the City of Rapid City is 42,056, with an 
additional 395 registered voters in the Valley annexation area.

Office.  Precinct by Precinct results are also available.  

The official canvas will be held Thursday June 4, 2009 at the Rapid City Council 
Chambers at noon.
